National Criminal Procedure Tournament
Sponsoring Entity: The University of San Diego School of Law’s Appellate Moot Court Board will hold the 33rd Annual National Criminal Procedure.

Description: The tournament will be held on November 4th, 2022 through November 6th, 2022, at the University of San Diego. Each team will be guaranteed a minimum of four arguments to take place over the first two days of the tournament. The tournament will provide advocates with the opportunity to argue challenging and timely issues related to criminal procedure. This event is currently being planned as an in-person event (subject to change given existing conditions at the time of the event).

Registration Information

General Registration Deadline: You may register one (1) team beginning on July 5, 2022 at 9:00am PST and ending on July 19, 2022 at 11:59pm PST.

Final Registration Deadline: All schools may register up to two (2) teams during Final Registration beginning on July 25, 2022 at 9:00am PST and ending on July 31, 2022 at 11:59pm PST. If your school has registered a team during an earlier registration period, it may register a second team at this time.

Registration operates on a first come, first serve basis. In 2017, General Registration was full within minutes (40 teams).

Registration will take place through a two-step process:

Step 1:

Complete the competition 2022 Affidavit and respond to email usdmootcourttournaments@gmail.com during the applicable registration period with the completed affidavit and a declaration of your intent to register.

Note: Competitor names and coaches may be left TBD if applicable, but an official representative of each applicant school’s administration or Moot Court organization must sign the affidavit. Once identified, team members and coaches are bound by the affidavit if chosen to represent their school in the competition.

Step 2:

Upon the receipt of application / affidavit, an Eventbrite link will be sent to each team who has successfully completed Step 1. Final registration and payment can be submitted using this link.

Alternatively, you may pay via check. If you choose to submit payment by check, please make note of such on your application. The registration fee is $700 per team or $1,400 for two teams.

Your fee is non-refundable after your entry fee is made via Eventbrite or by check and mailed to the USD Moot Court Office below:

Once Application is Completed:

Completed applications must be e-mailed to usdmootcourttournaments@gmail.com by the registration deadline. The first 40 teams to complete all registration steps will be entered into this year’s competition. There is a maximum of two competitors and one coach per team (no team writer or researcher allowed).

The time/date of your emailed application will determine whether your school is one of the first 40 schools to register.

However, if you email an application on time, but fail to pay via Eventbrite or send a registration check postmarked by the deadline, your place in the competition will be given to the next applicant on the waitlist who has met both deadline requirements.

All applications submitted prior to the applicable registration period will be discarded.

In addition to providing an opportunity to compete against top moot court programs from around the nation, the National Criminal Procedure Tournament is designed to ensure that each competitor enjoys their stay in San Diego.
